Precision Denture Clinic

Caring For Patients

At Precision Denture Clinic, we want your dentures to look and feel their best for years to come. Proper denture care is essential not only for their longevity but also for maintaining good oral health and comfort. Follow these simple care tips to keep your dentures in top condition.

Daily Denture Care Tips

Store Your Dentures Safely

When you remove your dentures, keep them in a safe place to prevent damage. Avoid placing them on countertops or surfaces where they could be knocked over or exposed to bacteria. Store dentures in a dry environment to prevent further growth of bacteria. Clean well with a soft-bristled toothbrush and store dry.

Brush Daily with a Soft Bristle Brush

Just like natural teeth, dentures require daily brushing to remove food particles and plaque buildup. Use a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive denture cleanser—avoid regular toothpaste, as it can scratch the denture surface, making it more susceptible to stains and bacteria.

Rinse After Eating

After meals, rinse your dentures with water to remove food particles and prevent bacterial buildup. This is especially important after consuming staining beverages like coffee, tea, or red wine.

Deep Cleaning & Disinfection

How to Disinfect Your Dentures

For a thorough clean, soak your dentures in a denture cleansing tablet solution (such as Polident). This helps remove stubborn stains, plaque, and bacteria. If you’ve dropped your dentures in an unsanitary place, clean them immediately with a denture cleanser and rinse thoroughly with water.

Professional
Cleaning

We recommend bringing your dentures in for a professional cleaning and polish at least once a year. Our dental prosthetists can also check for signs of wear, fit issues, or the need for relining to ensure your dentures remain comfortable and functional.

Common Denture Care Question

Should I Keep My Dentures in Water Overnight?

No. Clean well and store dry.

Yes, it is highly recommended to remove dentures overnight. This allows your gums to rest, prevents irritation, and reduces the risk of infections, sores, and bone loss.
While it is possible to sleep with dentures, it is not recommended. Wearing dentures overnight increases the risk of:
  • Gum infections and sores
  • Bad breath and bacterial buildup
  • Bone resorption (bone loss over time)
  • Increased risk of pneumonia
For the best oral health, remove and clean your dentures before bed.

Always insert your dentures dry.

Regular Check-Ups & Adjustments

Dentures should be checked at least once a year to ensure they still fit properly. Over time, changes in your gums and jawbone may cause dentures to feel loose, requiring relines or adjustments for better comfort and function.
At Precision Denture Clinic, we offer free consultations to assess your denture fit and provide expert care recommendations.
